Sudan reached 9 million IDPs in 18 months. Syria took 4 years to reach the same threshold. Yet Sudan receives one-fifth the humanitarian funding per displaced person, USD 86 vs. Syria's USD 420.
The poorest countries absorb the most refugees, and the data proves it
Chad (GDP $690) hosts 600K Sudanese refugees. Lebanon (pop. 5.5M) hosts 805K Syrians, the highest per-capita ratio globally. The ten wealthiest nations combined host fewer refugees than Uganda alone.
