How to read these answer pages

Each page below opens with the headline figure that an analyst, reporter, or caseworker is most likely to need first. Below that figure we publish the definition that the underlying source uses (an internally displaced person under the IDMC framework is not the same as a refugee under the 1951 Convention), the date of the latest available estimate, and the primary source link so the figure can be cited directly.

We update the underlying datasets monthly. Where a country has more than one recognised counting authority (for example Ukraine, where both UNHCR and the Ministry of Social Policy publish IDP estimates), we list the discrepancy rather than picking a single number, and we explain the methodology gap in plain language. Numbers in these answer pages should match the headline figures shown on each country dashboard within a 24-hour window.

We aggregate data from UNHCR, OCHA, IOM, ACLED, and other verified UN sources to make displacement data accessible for researchers, journalists, humanitarian workers, and the public.
